International Children’s Day is set to be June 1 every year. In order to mourn the liditzer massacre of 10 June 1942 and all the children who died in the war all over the world, oppose the killing and poisoning of children, and guarantee the rights of children.
In November 1949, the International Federation of democratic women held a council meeting in Moscow. Representatives of China and other countries angrily exposed the crimes of killing and poisoning children by imperialists and reactionaries from all over the world. The meeting decided to take June 1 as the international children’s day every year. It is a festival set up to protect children’s rights of survival, health care, education, upbringing, to improve children’s lives, and to fight against child maltreatment and poisoning. June 1 is a children’s day in many countries around the world.
On June 1, 1950, the small owners of new China ushered in the first international children’s day.
Children are the future of our country. However, before liberation, the children of the working people were deprived of the right to receive education and happy childhood. After the founding of new China, the party and the government attached great importance to the healthy growth of children. Despite the lack of material conditions and difficulties in the early period of liberation, the Party Central Committee still attached great importance to the all-round development of children. In November 1949, the Council of the international women’s Democratic Federation decided that June 1 would be international children’s day. The newly established central people’s Government of the people’s Republic of China has decided to make this day a festival for Chinese children. The Party Central Committee attaches great importance to the first children’s day of new China. In order to prepare for the celebration of the June 1 children’s day, in response to the appeal of “the right to protect children’s rights and striving for peace” issued by the Democratic women’s Federation and other organizations, the 11 people’s organizations and the relevant departments of the Central People’s Government of China have specially constituted the Preparatory Committee. Mao Zedong wrote an inscription: “celebrate children’s Day”. Commander in chief Zhu earnestly hoped: “the children of new China should love the motherland, science and labor, and be ready to build a new China.” Liu Shaoqi, Zhou Enlai, Song Qingling, Deng Yingchao and other party and state leaders also wrote inscriptions for the children.
On that day, 5000 children gathered at Zhongshan Park Music Hall in Beijing to celebrate their festival. Children and mothers from the Soviet Union, North Korea and other countries were also invited to attend the party. Commander in chief Zhu is very concerned about the healthy growth of children. He said: “although you are still young, you should study hard, learn all kinds of scientific knowledge, exercise your body to be strong, and be ready to participate in the work of building a new China, and turn poor and backward China into a strong industrial base with a high culture.”
On this day, children from all over the country also held a party. From then on, every time we went to “June 1st”, all over the country organized various kinds of activities to celebrate the children’s festivals. The party and the government were very concerned about the healthy growth of children, creating a good environment for their lives and learning. The children of new China thrived under the sun of the party.
